No, I'm not dead. (An update)

Posted by Mottis - March 19th, 2020

Alright so, I'll get this out of the way first: No, sadly this update has almost nothing to do with Bunnykill, nor will I most likely ever continue the series. Sorry to be so blunt, but I don't want to get your hopes up.

Anyway, I checked some comments on my last update recently. I can't believe there are still people out there leaving comments as recent as this year. I guess I should first apologize for just disappearing like the way I did. When I made the last post I just kinda left Newgrounds/animating behind and I didn't want to look back. I felt so relieved and even now, just thinking about Bunnykill gives me mixed, bittersweet feelings with a dose of anxiety. The final year that I spent working on those movies was not enjoyable, at all. After I stopped, I've been a lot more stress free and quite a few things has happened in my life, like getting a full time job, a drivers license and a car.

As for animating, I think I'll stay away like I've been doing. I've had some fleeting desires to get back to it but they're usually over before they even really start. Not to mention with an 40 hour work week, I'd have way less time to work on Flash movies than I used to.

I burned out really badly years ago but the scars are still there. I guess what causes me the most anxiety is how in the beginning animating was truly something I loved doing, I had a real passion for it. There was a spark of sorts and I was really good at it too. But I suppose I'm not the kind of person who can perform well under pressure and I still blame myself for not being up to the task. I feel guilty for stopping and leaving so many fans without a trace but at the same time I can't deny that I've been a lot happier ever since I did. Like I mentioned before; mixed, bittersweet feelings.

I'm quite happy with my life at this moment. I actually enjoy my work, and I make more money than I need. In the unlikely scenario I ever do decide to come back and work on animated movies, trust me you guys will be the first to know.

Anyway, I suppose this is a goodbye for now, a long overdue one. Thanks for all the love and support, I really do apreciate it even though I'm bad at showing it sometimes.

Cheers,

-Mott

Thanks for sharing, I enjoy life updates like these when people pop in after a long time away. Hope things continue to go well in Kotka! Has coronavirus been much of a thing in your parts?

Oh hey Tom! Thanks.

They've already shut off schools, gyms and so on around here because of the virus but so far it hasn't had any impact on my personal life. My biggest worry is that they might be forced to lay me off in the near future because factories might be getting shut down as well. We'll see.

Hey man good to hear from you, and of course thanks for being a part of the ride. Godspeed in your endeavors!

Thanks man! Haven't been keeping up with Newgrounds but from a quick glance I can see that you're still hard at work. Nice :D

Glad to hear from you. You might be interested to learn that some Madness fan animators have made a tribute to your series. You can watch it here. https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/718644

Nice to know you're still around and doing well.
Also, don't worry about disappointing people, if you won't enjoy yourself while animating then don't pressure yourself with the thought of doing it. (Even though that's basically what you said in this post)

Wherever life takes you, we'll all wish you the best of luck!

Just hello and goodbye like this huh? Sad to hear the series won't be continuing, probably, but great to hear you've been doing good at least. Nothing more important than that. Enjoyed your work back then, and will probably do so again if you ever get back to it, but definitely no pressure. Creative work's supposed to be something positive. An outlet more than a burnout. All the best on the journey that awaits...

Also might want to change that 'Bunnykill 5 Prequel progress: Working on scene 1' blurb

I tried to remove the text but it wouldn't let me for some reason.

glad you're doing well
<3 keep it up

Hey I totally get the burnout. I hope you've found something else in life to scratch that creative itch that animation used to give you. I've turned my creative side towards gardening mostly but I still have the odd project Idea I write down for the maybe somedays

Weird, I recently started watching the Bunnykills again, and it's incredible how much they still hold up. All I'll say is that your efforts won't go on unappreciated, best of luck to you.

we missed you, man.

cheers lad,and thanks for the childhood memories

You should have seen my comments on the previous post you made,it's about someone taking your place in continuing bunnykill for us,and someone thought it was a wise decision.

Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of someone else continuing the series. I like that I managed to end the series on a high note, so to speak. Non-canon fan movies are fine though.

I hope that someday you can come back if you're up to it. But why didn't you mention Rajunen at all yet? You two where a tight-knit duo way back then, and we haven't heard anything from him in years.

To be honest, I haven't talked to him in years. He moved to Helsinki, I moved to Kotka. We went our separate ways. I'm really bad at keeping contact with people anyway (in case you didn't notice lol)

@Belyayevs-Fox how do you tell about someone taking his place to continue?

@CreedenceStewart I don't know, he didn't explicitly mention letting anyone else continuing the Bunnykill series in any official capacity. I suppose only time will tell if it ever comes.

I already mentioned this earlier, but I don't like the idea of someone else continuing the main series. Fan made non-canon movies are perfectly fine though.

@Belyayevs-Fox well I hope that happens

@Belyayevs-Fox well I hope that happens

Ah yeah it seems you currently can't just remove the blurb, only replace it. It's on their bug list.

Ah, okay that seemed to work :)

Shame that you won't finish the Bunnykill series but I deffo have respect for you popping in to at least explain WHY, as opposed to most people who just left NG forever without even bothering to do that. Takes some real balls to do that, honestly.

I wish you nothing but the best my man, thanks for concluding this long awaited story and most of all: Thanks for all the animations you ever made on here! I loved watching them when I was younger. :)

Cheers!

What if i told you that I did actually finish Bunnykill? Bk5.2 was the last movie in the series :) Bk5.0 was supposed to be a prequel, a side story of sorts.

Seriously though, I'm kinda happy that I managed to finish it on a high note. I'm really proud of how BK5.2 turned out and I couldn't imagine a better farewell for the series.

@CreedenceStewart @Mottis very well then.
